Super simple storage tip
I just can't believe I never thought of this before..
To keep flour, rice, sugar etc really nice and dry..throw a couple of those silicon dessicant packets that you get in all kinds of stuff in with the stuff you'd like to stay moisture free.
I live in a really moist climate and have trouble keeping sugar un-hardened even in a container. I got one of those dessicant packets in a box of tea.
Threw it in with the sugar and voila! dry sugar.

I made my own little silica packets. Use un cooked rice and put it in a little sachet bag. Made my own with extra cloth I had on hand.

I keep rice with my salt in the shaker and some medium size pasta in my jar of salt. Both work well. I also have some desiccant packs that I tend to not throw away so I may add some to my frequently used herbs and spices during the up coming seasons. Thanks for the tip.

I freeze my spices...and as long as you use them right out of the freezer~there is no extra moisture that clump it up.
I started doing that with a pampered chef dill mix I had bought one...and rec'd one for a gift, so I froze it. ~It's great~still that brilliant green, and it seems to taste fine.

I save all those little plastic cylinders that come with pills. They work great in salt shakers. I've never had luck using rice, I think because the shakers were in our campers and didn't get used enough.
Never thought about it for sugar. Good idea!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You can also use dried beans. I use pinto in my salt, etc. They stand out

In Hawaii I think that everyone uses rice in their salt, but I love the idea of using beans - a fun twist to the process!!
