The Shamrock Plant---Did You Know----
This was a very good season for the shamrock plant. They were out en mass, at the supermarkets, Lowe's, etc. Lovely green clover stems, delicate white blossoms in profusion and relatively inexpensive to boot.
If you didn't pick one up before St. Patrick's Day, they're probably available at a substantial savings until the stores run out. The perfect time to scoop them up and give them a good home.
I've had mine for three years. Here is what it's taught me:
It appreciates a smoke free home.
It likes it's feet wet.
Absolutely no direct sun is tolerated and it's not so keen on indirect either.
It thrives indoors with indirect light and moderate temperatures.
I would not keep one too near a heat or AC register.
It will bloom twice a year.
After each blooming it takes a small rest then puts out the clovers.
When the clovers are full again, the blossoms begin once more.
When mine got too big for it's pot I transplanted with more of the same soil it came with but added some crushed egg shells and old coffee grounds. For about two or three weeks there was absolutely nothing showing but soil. When it began growing again, it grew to be more full, stronger and healthier than before.
For a plant that's so delicate looking, it is one prolific bloomer.
I hope all who have one enjoy it as much as I do mine.

We gave one to my hubby's grandma for Christmas, it was a kit with the seeds, pot and growing supplies for her window sill. She loved it. I should call her and see how it is doing.

I picked up a shamrock plant at Meijer on Wednesday. My cat has eaten them in past, so I'm hoping that he will leave it alone this time around. Thanks for the tips because it's been years since I have had a shamrock.

Wow I didn't know they sold these plants! They would be perfect for my little apartment! I get no direct sunlight in any of my windows...I don't smoke...have no pets and keep it relatively mild in here!! I love having plants but once I moved in here everything died because of lack of sunlight! I may have to go out this weekend and see if I can find any!! Thanks for the info!

I need an indoor one as we don't have good plant growing windows.
