Just to the waist? Or do you need to extend into the hip area as well? I made a pair of camo pants bigger for ds as he grew by inserting a triangular piece into the side seams and making a new waistband to fit. It wasn't hard. If that's what you are thinking: I removed the waistband completely, and took the side seams apart a few inches on each side. Then I sewed a triangular piece to each side seam. This of course made the original waistband too small so you will need to re-size that as well. Does that help?

If you live where there is a Cooperative Extension Service (County Extension Office), they usually have an agent who can give you instructions for free. They have hand-outs on many such subjects, including clothing, foods, home canning, as well as gardening and a multitude of other subjects you may be interested in (they also have classes). Take advantage of what they have to offer. Our tax dollars at work....
