faking the EZ comb
There's a product out there on TV called the EZ comb. It looks pretty good. But A) I don't buy things off TV, and B) $10 for 3 hair thingies! You've got to be kidding!
So here's the EZ Fake fix...
Take a sturdy set of hair combs (check the .99 cent store if you don't have a set) hook one end of a rubber band around the top two "teeth" on the 1st comb. (slide beads on if you want to) then hook the other end on that rubber band around the bottom two "teeth" of the 2nd comb.
Now do the mirror image from the top of the 2nd comb to the bottom of the 1st comb.
Hook 1st comb into hair, stretch the 2nd comb across and secure.

I was looking at that ad on TV last night myself and thinking there had to be a way to make your own.
Or I could just go bead something.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'll have to try that! I saw those on TV and thought they looked pretty cute. But like you...I don't buy things off of TV! I've also been looking for something to duplicate the Bumpitz thing I saw on TV (also a hair product), but haven't been able to think of anything else that I could use in it's place!

Here's an eBay listing with good close-up shots of one design plus a good video on how to use the combs. Stretchy Comb listing.
For the crafty amongst us, it looks like a relatively easy project to make your own.Last edited by Spirit Deer; 03-26-2009 at 08:56 AM.

actually, i'd recommend using either stretch cord (you can buy at a craft dept or store) OR take some hair ponytail bands (cut the metal part off) and use those. (i'd recommend the former.)
put yer own beads/embellishments on and first hot glue the ends of the cord (OR use clear nail polish) to keep the ends from fraying & to give you something to work with.
then you can hot glue/super glue (and maybe even use a jewelry staple) to hold these on to a decent hair clip you have/bought.
OR, if you're really handy, get a thick clip, drill small holes just above the "teeth" of the comb & string the cord thru those (tie/hot glue in back so as not to see knot).
thing is with this, you can make your own designs... diff. coloured beads, diff. sizes... you can use as many or few bands across as you like. i think differences in thickness of hair would determine this.
just a few ideas from a former jewelry/bead maker. LOL
