another way to think before you spend
I read this somewhere and thought is was a good idea
When you want to purchase something think about how many hours you will have to work to pay for it.

It's a great idea! I will warn you not to even try to think of your mortgage this way though. It can lead to serious depression.....

I do that for the kids and DH. They just don't get the value of $$ until I put it into other terms.

Good idea to get a different perspective.
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Thank you for sharing that point of view, I have heard it before, but never really thought about it!! Not to mention that it should be a good motivation for a savings account too!!! Think about how much you can save by not spending that desired amount on things!!

I tried to explain this to my daughter who is almost 8 the other day. She had carelessly stuffed some things her Nana had bought her into the bottom of her closet. We sat and discussed how long her Poppy had to work to get the money to buy the items and the fact that he traded his time by working for the money. The lightbulb seemed to go on after we talked about it

i think of 100 dollars as "a day in my life". do i want to give a day of my life for this widget?
11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.
"i create prosperity, abundance, and savings for me and my household"

The book Your Money or Your Life is basically based on this theory. This book is the one thing that got me started on a frugal life.

I understand. That’s why I keep my self in search of printable coupons online so that the pain of spending hard earned money is not that acute.

I had heard this before...but you know it has come at just the right time in my frugal journey because I was getting a little depressed. I think I will go to the student loan website and average how much interest I am paying each month...I have a feeling that will kick start me into getting my super frugal bottom going....at least it will make me eat at home versus out tonight

I really need to get myself and hubby in the habit of thinking this way. It's way to easy for us to spend money.
