    Default hamburger meat?

jason and i have set about the time we want to have our wedding. late may or early june next yr. we already have the food planned out. its going to be a cookout. im going to be making the hamburger patties like i usually do (5 pound tubes of meat) but need help with figuring out how to keep them from getting freezerburn if i make them now (so i dont have to do it around that time). we are also going to have chicken, hot dogs and brats (those are the easiest to store). tia.

It's a great idea to plan and be prepared, but a year is a long time and you will have to worry about freezer burn, etc. My advice would be to put the money into a stash just for wedding food, and then shop and freeze about 2 months or so before your big day.

The only other suggestion that I have, would be to use or borrow a FoodSaver. They really do work, but can be pricey if you have to run out and buy one.

Have fun with all your plans! Wishing you the best!

I agree, unless you already have a vacuum sealer or can borrow one I would stash the money and buy the meat closer to the wedding.

This is exactly what we are doing in less than 2 weeks. After the ceremony, we are going back to his parents house where we will have sloppy joe's. I'm going to fix the meat the day before and then heat it in the crockpot the day of our wedding. Everyone is going to bring a dish and we will of course have cake for dessert. But I wouldn't buy the meat a year ahead of time, unless like the others posted, you have a food saver.

I agree with the others.......a year is too far ahead to buy the meat. It will freezer burn for sure. Don't think I would even buy the brats either......they will dry out on the ends......trust me, been there and have had them do that.

Congrats and good luck. Hope everything goes smooth.

I agree that you shouldn't make them too far ahead. If you want to save on the hamburger meat itself, watch for a great sale on chuck roasts and have your meat dept. grind them for you. I just recently purchased some chuck roasts for $1.57 a lb. and did this. I can't ground beef out there for even close to that price and you never know what part of the cow that beef comes from.
