what do you do with large laundry detergent containers
I'm looking for ideas that would let me re purpose some large plastic laundry detergent containers. These have the bubble push spout on them. I tried thinning my homemade detergent but it didn't flow well from the spout.

Any ideas on how to reuse these before they go to the recycle bin?The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

Indoor (or I guess even outdoor) watering cans? Wouldn't use up a ton of them, but it'd give you a use for one of them!

I cut off the tops. . . punch holes around the upper portion of the bottom, then either sew on fabric tops or crochet tops with drawstrings. . . and the kids use to store their treasures, I use to store small items, etc.

At our Girl Scout camp they use these as handwashing stations. They put a small bar of soap in a panty hose and tied it on the jug. Worked well! Not sure how useful that is around the house but thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

I use those AND cat litter containers to...
put my son's Legos, Magnetic, Hexabits, etc in. Also, I use one in the garage for when I am weeding, picking up sticks and dog presents. LOTS of uses for them. Take care and God bless.

Not sure what they look like, but is there any way you could leave the lid on....poke holes in the lid with ice pick or something sharp (don't understand/know about the bubble push top).......cut off the bottom and bury them, lid down, about halfway, next to plants/veggies for watering. This makes sure the water gets to the roots where it is really needed.
I ran out of my cones/liter bottles this year and have resorted to milk jugs for watering the roots of my veggies.Last edited by frugalfranny; 07-06-2009 at 11:20 PM.

Thank you Eveybody!
Frugal Franny: I have a collection of 2 liter bottles that I use for that purpose. I might use one of these though to water our weeping cherry tree that Greebo and I planted for our wedding.
thanks for the idea as it will hold about 2 gallons of water instead of a measly 2 liters.
Sam and HappiMommi: that's perfect. We travel to a rural outdoor family reunion 2x/yr and even though there is a hose with water, washing up after using the spot a pot is a hassle since the hose is closer to the pavilion (and the pot is not). It would also be great to take along on road trips and the Ren Fest for washing the dirt off my feet. I'm very excited about this. Thank you.
Sunshine: that is very creative. I remember my Mom doing that with milk jugs when I was little. I wonder if teenage my nieces would be interested in making a carrier like this for their beach gear? They could learn a crochet stitch and use bulky yarn for the top.
Debbie-cat: rofl, let me go get a garage! The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

- Some reuse their large plastic of laundry detergent containers and make them into cute kids toys.
- Others also make them into cool beach buckets and scoops.

My brother changes the oil on all his family's cars. He knocks the spout of them, puts the used oil in them, and puts them out for curbside recycling.
