    Smile Don't forget to save......

your squash seeds for a great snack. Pumpkin seeds can be saved too.

They are a great source of potassium, magnesium, and zinc, plus others. They are somewhat high fat but low saturated fat.....so while they have a few calories.....the fat is the good fat.

Just spread them out, as best you can, on a cookie sheet and use a flavored salt or seasonsing on them. (they will be sort of slimy from the squash, but don't rinse them off....that is flavor too!) Put them in the oven at 200 degrees for about 30 minutes. Check and try to turn the ones you can 'easily' at the 15 minute mark. Salt/season again and put back in oven. If not quite dry at 30 minutes, leave in a little longer. I will sometimes just turn the oven off and let them sit in the oven while it cools.

I can't bake them as fast as I can eat them!!!

I get a better seasoning doing these in the oven as opposed to the dehydrator.

Is there some trick to eating them? Can you eat them whole? Can I do this to any kind of squash, like the butternut I get from the grocery store?

No, Nishu, no trick. Just eat them whole. No shelling or anything. And yes, you can do any squash.

I have already done a spaghetti squash and golden acorn that I bought.......and the seeds were delish!! I prefer the smaller seeds........from acorn, butternut, spaghetti, but save the buttercup seeds too. I save and bake them all. a great snack!

Great tip, great snack but holy fibre! LOL (TMI - sorry!)

I bought a non brand name silicone baking sheet liner...think things will turn out just as well as a reg foil or non stick cookie sheet? Or will it take longer to bake the seeds?

I would guess it would be the same. I check mine and 'move around' the ones that will move easy at about 20 minutes, but from then on I just check them. Sample one to see if they are getting the 'crispy chew' going. Bet ya can't eat just one!!

I have done all kinds of seeds. I eat em whole but sometimes I eat em like sunflower seeds. I usually douse mine is homemade hot pepper! I am portuguese so I need my hot stuff. lol its just how I was taught to make em. They store great too. Well if you have any left. Fava beans too are good roasted or sorta fried turns them into like a real hard chip. Another pld world thing but as long as you suck em or have good teeth ,you shouldnt have an issue.
