appliance repair forum-saved us BIG $
Just thought I'd pass this along. Our front-load washer had started to make an awful racket. A local repair man said it was probably the motor ($200 for the part). Their labor cost to replace it was around $200. I posted on Appliance Guru explaining the problem and including a video. Someone suggested to check the pump. DH pulled the front panel off the washer and what do you know, the pump filter was full of money and other random pieces of junk. The repair was free, easy and we don't have to have a new washer. YAY!

That's great news. I also like Repair Clinic (Appliance Parts from RepairClinic.com) and AP Wagner (Appliance Parts Source from APWagner).

WOW!!! Thanks for that link.
Nine years ago we purchased a Fisher & Paykel washer, not only because it was energy efficient, but it's a great machine when it comes to repairs for the do-it-your-selfer. So that's something to consider when purchasing. I took the machine apart at the store - to prove the point the sales rep. was making. The Fisher & Paykel also has increased reliability because it doesn't have a transmission, belts, brakes, clutches or pulleys to fail.

You're very welcome. I hope your fix is as cheap as ours was. Of course anything you can fix yourself is cheaper than calling a repairman. Good luck!

I have also found youtube to be very helpful for tutorial videos. Videos I found there walked me through lighting my pilot light on my water heater and fixing my garbage disposal.

Like MrsMcD said, YouTube is a great resource as well. Our washer quit a few months ago, DH looked on YouTube found the problem and for $26 for the part he was able to fix it in 10 minutes.

I fixed a minor issue our toploading washing machine had by Googling the problem (water was filling the drum, but draining out -- the rinse cycle never would start and it just wasted water) and I think the answer came from Appliance Guru, too. Definitely worth checking out.
