    Default Herbs For a Cough

I have been sick for about 10 days. Although the worst has passed, I still have that lingering cough...and it seems to act up only at night. I have taken Goldenseal Root, Lung Support & Fenugreek tea...are there any other herbs that will do a better job in getting rid of the cough? Thanks

My DD has had a nasty case of acute viral pharyngitis for the past week...bad stuff...very contagious...She's had a pretty bad cough with this also, but the only thing that's helped is prescription cough meds with albuterol breathing treatments every 4-6 hours.
Now she's developed bronchitis...so more breathing treatments with antibiotics...poor baby, she's been so sick...

Anyway, wish I knew of a fantastic sure fire herbal remedy...but I don't.
    Hope you get well soon!

Try putting a coat of Vick's on the soles of your feet, then put on cotton socks. No more cough, get a good nights sleep.

We've had a horrible coughing cold around here. Breathing treatments, vicks vapor rub with a heating pad thrown over the chest, sleeping sitting up, sips of vodka and Fisherman's Friend cough suppressant lozenges.

Something bads going round, take care all. I hope you feel better soon.

Seriously, I read this on the net a few years ago and it worked when my son was sick a couple times. Who would have thunk??

I read that on here I think a few years ago about the vicks...

Anyway, watch it closely, I had to by ambulance to the hospital early last Sunday morning with pretty much the same stuff.. turned into an asthma attach ( never had one at least that cut OFF my breath at 45)

Now I'm doing breathing treatments at home, antibiotics at hospital and home and predisone, alllergy pills... advair.... on and on it goes..

Something BADS is out there folks.. this is the first morning I've gotten out of bed.

    Yes, it's definitely something bad!

On top of everything that's been going on with my DD, this afternoon, as she was attempting to shower, she felt faint, so she sat down in the tub. After she was able, she somewhat rinsed her hair, then tried to get out. As she exited the shower, she passed out, hitting her head on the bathroom door.
After hearing the noise,I ran in and found her hanging onto the towel butler...I covered her up and let her down, by this time, she was completely unconscious...Her skin was a grayish color, as were her lips...I don't think I've ever been so scared!

Anyway, she finally came back to, as I was getting the phone from DH to call for an ambulance. She stated she didn't want to go to the ER, so I didn't complete the call. ((AT this point, we're joined at the hip...I'm not letting her out of my sight for now))
To make a long dramatic story short, she's much better now, but still a bit weak.
**Important thing to remember with this nasty stuff that's going around...make sure to drink PLENTY of liquids, and to eat enough to keep your body going while it's trying to heal.

((In a 24 hour period, DD consumed less than approx. 500 calories-and that's including drinks-Low blood sugar is probably the reason she passed out))

She says she feeling better, just not "good" yet...Hopefully soon.

This afternoon, when I saw her coloring, even though I'm an ex medic, I was terrified. I don't panic easily, but I was heading in that direction.

Anyone that has this particular virus, make sure you take care of yourself...plenty of fluids, simple food, rest, and take meds as directed by your Dr. This is a very nasty bug!

It may just be me...but has anyone else noticed that each year, this virus mutates & adds on other symptoms? It just seems so odd to me.....not trying to scare anyone-so please forgive me.
For the past 3 days....although I feel better, once I shower & get going...my eyes start running & I have allergy-type symptom - like sneezing - abundant runny nose (that should have been gone by now). I finally got tired of it & broke down & took some OTC allergy meds( I hate doing this)...within 3 hours the symptoms went away......although I have been ill before- this time I am totally baffled.

I can imagine how scary that would be...even if you're trained- that is your child that it is happening to.Yikes...I am so thankful that she's doing better. Keep us posted.

    This is very true!

DD thought she had the flu because this virus creates flu, strep, and allergy like symptoms and is very contagious. Antibiotics won't help unless you have a secondary issue/infection such as bronchitis...that's what happened to my DD.

Tomorrow we have another Dr. appt. We'll see how things are progressing...
