    Default Question about beans

I know thisd is not a new question, but how long can you keep pinto beans before they go bad? I have some that have been in a sealed gallon glass canning jar for a couple of years and am wondering if they are still good. They are dry beans but they do have a darker color than new pintos. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

They should be good still (though I'm reading couple of years as 2 years). I would try cooking them and see how they turn out. They may need a longer soaking time and cooking time but there's only one way to find out.

It might be good to cook them in a slow cooker so you don't have to babysit the stove.

I have found that no matter how long I cook them, old pintos don't do well.

I have some that was given to me about a decade ago. They are yummy and cook up just as good as newer beans from the store.

They were stored in only a burlap bag all those years.

Side note: I always cook my pinto beans in the crock pot because it is so easy.

I am currently using pinto beans that have been vacuum sealed in jars for over a year and they are just fine.

Beans will stay good 10 -12 years if they are vacuum sealed and kept in a cool dry place!
