If you have Direct TV here goes the typical annual...
negotiations. And from this article, it looks like you will be losing some channels.........hope they aren't your favorite shows.
This happens in this area each year at negotiation time................then they settle it, but this one sounds like it might go longer.
A 30% increase is quite a bit to pass on to consumers!!

I only lost one channel that I watch -- CMT. I can live without the others....and if I have to pay more, I can live without CMT too.

We have DirecTV and our family is really only missing a couple of the Nick channels. I'm sure it'll all get sorted out sooner or later. Until then, my 4 year old is calling Viacom the "bad guy" for taking away her UmiZoomi, hehehe.

Dish Network is doing the same thing. One of the few shows I look forward to is Mad Men, and they are dropping the station that it airs on...grr....

I don't have cable--or anything---but I watch this and am not sure the 'crap' that happens EVERY year with DirectTV and Dish would be worth it.......if I wanted extra channels.
And.........aren't you under a "contract"?.............so you signed on to this "contract" when you had X number of channels-------and now they have dropped you to Y number..............can you cancel without a penalty?
As much as I dislike Comcast...........I might be tempted.............IF I wanted to increase my TV channels..........won't be happening any time soon.

Oh wow PC...........I had not heard this..............there goes "Dancing with the Stars"............surprised as that is one of the 'major ones'......
I'll just keep my plain stuff.........with the plain old converter box!!!
Probably makes me get more stuff done anyway..........if there is nothing on the 'reg. channels'........I check PBS (have 3) and if nothing there, I go do something else or read!!

It happens when contract negotiations are up. Most people don't realize this, but Dish (or Comcast, or Verizon, or DirectTv, or whoever) actually pay money to carry those channels. Say they are negotiating with MTV. MTV can ask for $100,000 per month plus $1 for every subscriber who gets MTV, and they want them to carry all the other MTV channels. So when contracts go up, they renegotiate. If Dish is stuck taking a huge increase and has to pay a ton more just to carry the programming, then they can either drop the channels or raise consumer prices. So it's not just the cable company's fault, a lot of times it the channels making outrageous demands.
BTW, this is also why you'll never have ala carte pricing under the current system.Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06) and Oliver Andrew (5/25/12)

Oh wow! Now with me being a sort of 'news junky''.........THAT would really piss me off!!!
So........asked this earlier and rec'd no answer..............when that happens, can you cancel your contract w/o penalties?
You signed up for X channels.........and now are getting Y..............just wondering. Is there a clause in the contract that covers this situation?
