Default any tips on reusing old shirt?

One of DH's business shirts died in the wash this week. It's 100% cotton and is badly frayed and ripped under the collar. He won't wear it again. Just as he was going to the store this morning I said "the ladies at frugal village would know what to do with this shirt". He said "Just throw it out." I'm sure this shirt is a recyclable but I can only think of cutting it up for rags and taking off the buttons. Do any of you frugal queens have any other suggestions?

If it's cotton knit, you can cut it into strips then use those later in the summer to tie up plants than need to be staked like tomatoes.

Yes, do save the buttons and collar stays. If the shirt has long sleeves, you can cut those off and gather the cut part. Stuff with plastic grocery sacks to keep them corralled.

    I'm thinking

    Shirt Pocket Quilt

    Pocket Placemats

that is if the shirt has a pocket.

Thanks ladies. Having a homewares store I have more cushions than I know what to do with so I think I'll make some rice warming bags. We use them quite a bit in winter so spare ones are always good to have.

I'm grateful for all the suggestions.

Great to use for cover-up's for kids when they're painting or anything messy like that!
My son and daughter-in-law buy loads of old shirts from the thrift shops for using in their kids entertainment business. When the kids start painting their plaster models they don't get any on their clothes!

I was thinking that. We have some of hubby's old shirts around here. I'm going to try to cut one down to make a craft apron for 2.5-yr old DGD. If it turns out nice, I'll post a picture.
