That bleach/vinegar dishwasher trick really works!
I finally got around to trying the Queen of Clean's method of cleaning your dishwasher & getting rid of the film on clear glasses-- and I am happy to report that it worked very well!
Basically, you put all your clear glassware-- nothing with metal-- in the dishwasher, and on the bottom rack you add one cup full of bleach. Run the cycle through, but don't dry. Then, do the same thing with one cup of white vinegar.
I was happy to see that my glasses are now sparkling clean
& the cloudiness is gone. I really can't say that I noticed much with the dishwasher itself, but then again, it's not that old so wasn't really dirty to begin with.

Before we moved this last time we had a dishwasher and instead of buying jetdry or something simlar I had remembered hearing you could use vinegar so I did.
The dishes and glasses looked better than when I washed them with out it and its cheaper as well.
I also use vinegar to clean the coffee maker and ice tea maker as well.

I use the jet dry.........SOLID......and like it. Never have spots. The solid will last for about three months or more but I don't wash the dishes but maybe once a week.
I do use the vinegar for the coffee maker......and really like it. Try to do it about every 4 months ---but I get sloppy. When it slows down ----it raises in priority, real quick.

I'm gonna try it too! Did anyone read the article ~Five Cleaners You Can't Live Without~? All natural and stuff we have around the house too. Glad I read it!
Thanks for the post! I love using the alternatives.

We have hard water and we can get build up on our dishes. I use vinegar as the rinse, but also run a vinegar only cycle about once a month - helps the dishwasher work much better.

Bleach and any acid (such as vinegar) is a dangerous combination. The chemical reaction between the two produces chlorine gas, which is poisonous. Chlorine gas was used as a chemical warfare agent in WW1.
The method described doesn't mix the two substances directly, but there is always the chance that some bleach will be left in the machine when you run the vinegar cycle.
I don't have a dishwasher, so it makes no difference to me, but I'd hate to hear that someone had burned their lungs out from trying this. I wouldn't do it.
