    Default keeping vegetables fresh

All food is expensive so it makes good sense to have ways of keeping your food as fresh as possible so it lasts until the very end. This is the method I use to keep hard vegetables fresh and crunchy. It works particularly well with celery, carrots, radishes, asparagus and pumpkin.

Wash the vegetable well and shake off excess water. You want a little water clinging to provide moisture in the wrapping, but don't overdo it. Take two large pieces of aluminium foil and tightly wrap the vegetable in it. Wrap it up like a tiny baby with no ends poking out. Put it in the fridge to keep for any length of time. I've kept celery and carrots like this, absolutely crisp and fresh, for over a month. Try it, it really works.

If you're storing pumpkin, you need to remove all the internal seeds.

Do baby carrots like their own individual little foil pouches? That's a lot of wrapping.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Really though, thanks for the tip, I've gotta try it.

Darlene, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to wrap every baby carrot and every stick of celery separately. That should keep you out of trouble for a short time, missy.

Celery can also be kept in a jar of water in the fridge. Just pop it in like a vase of flowers curls a little but stays crunchy.

Good tip! I've also had luck with the Tupperware containers designed to keep produce fresh. They really do work.

This is a great idea as is the vacuum sealer. I use to have one of them and it would make veggies and stuff last a very long time.
