second use- bread bags
I started a pantry thread that discusses ways we use pantry items.
Now let's take some household items and show second uses for them.
Recycling is wonderful, but finding a second use for an item is great too.
I'll start with bread bags. How do you reuse them?

In the distant past (when I was young and had NOO money) we used them over cloth diapers instead of plastic pants.
I cut them into strips and crochet with them
Use them in place of plastic wrap--- cut open, place over a bowel and secure with a rubber band, use the closed end for sandwiches in lunch boxes. . . .

I use them (and newspaper bags) for dirty diapers. Alot cheaper than refills for the diaper genie..... Just put it in, tie it up and throw it away.

We use ours for:
~freezing homemade bread
~placing dirty diapers in them
~for cat litter and dog droppings
~cut open and use to cover bowls in the fridge
~I've also frozen meat in them but you must make sure you don't have the ink side on the meat.
~I've doubled them up and froze veggies in them too.
We can also put them in our recycling box.

I just use them for any kitchen scraps that have to be put into the compost. Then when we go to the bottom of the backyard we just take them and empty them into the compost bin and throw them away!

Trash bags (for all the times you do little declutters througout the house).
You could put one on each hand and up over your arm for when you are painting or some messy chore like that.
Take them to the beach and use them to hold seashells you collect.
Wad them up and use them for painting texture (like sponge or rag painting).

We don't buy a whole lot of bread that comes in plastic bag, so I usually only re-use the ones from gourmet bread- the kind of bags that have whole in them to help keep the texture of the bread noce and chewy/crusty. I use them to put my OWN homemad bread in to help keep it fresher.
I have read that you can braid bread bags into a jump rope for kids.

I use them for things like veggie peels when I'm cooking to save for the compost pile. Sometimes I'll freeze something in one. I also sometimes use bread bags and the plastic bags that your newspaper comes in when it's raining or wet outside to put my shoes in. This way I can put them in my luggage without getting my clothes dirty from the soles of my shoes. Works like a charm!

I put flour in bread bags to flour meat for frying. I put my HM breads in them. I throw a few in the camper for wet clothes or for car sickness.

I like to keep a couple in the car. One to clean out trash. Another to carry in misc stuff (small toys, crayons, cds, etc) The bags fold up much nicer than grocery bags and take up hardly any space.

I never really thought of using them for much. Thanks for all the ideas; I especially like the idea of freezing homemade bread in them.
