Hair and beauty treatments at local college.
Hair and beauty treatments at our local college at a fraction of the price. The student is supervised by the teacher but they do say it's at your own risk. A friend of mine is a model at a local hair salon and she gets her haircut by a student for a fraction of the price. She does tell me that she has to spend more time in the chair as the student wants to get it perfect and it is checked several times by the teacher. One salon in my town charges £40 for a basic child's haircut.

I used to do that before I started cutting my own hair. I does take longer but that's the trade off. When I went to the salon with my friend I would always let her go first as it meant I would get a glass of wine while I waited!
£40 for a child's haircut!!! Do they wear a mask and carry a swag bag too?

I wish there was a place around here that did that. We bought a razor for DH so I could cut his hair.
Wait a sec, what am I complaining about? I haven't cut my hair in nearly three years!
Oh well, I do need it trimmed again.
Bright Blessings!

I used to go to Beauty Colleges too when I cut and permed my hair. I usually had friends there that I specifically asked for. If you get a new student and they don't know how to do a particular service yet, sometimes the instructor will do it as a demonstration. That's pretty good if you don't mind everyone crowed around watching.
Now my hair is down to my waist and we take care of it at home. I keep my bangs trimmed (can't see paying $10 just of that) and two or three times a year Bob evens up the botton. After the last hairdresser cut my hair from halfway down my back to shoulder length when I said "trim" I haven't been back. I've never colored my hair and don't plan to so that's not a problem.
Bob went to a local beauty college for a long time. The haircuts were fine. But as you say they do take longer, and he has TMJ. If he has to sit in the chair too long or they are the least bit rough, he comes home with a terrible headache.
Don't know about the UK but in the US beauty salons sometimes have coupons. He's done that. But now he has a hairdresser he really likes, so he just goes there. Her charge is about average and he only gets his haircut when he's going for a job interview or we have a book event coming up -- so it doesn't cost that much. Personally I like his hair a little long.

I've read that it's a good deal at our beauty colleges as well. I did go to a beauty college once and let my friend who was attending school there cut my hair. The price was great. I have considered looking into getting facials and pedicures there as well.

My best hair cuts and perms have come from a beauty school... I guess it is because they take their time not to make a mistake. I really need to go back there again.

I used to go to a local beauty school and usually had good experiences. Every once in a while you would get a poor haircut or something but it grows fast so who really cares?
Now however, I have a stylist that I just love so switching would be hard for me. She has opened her own shop and the prices are about average. Plus the beauty school went bankrupt so that is no longer an option. Oh well.
