Default Using Egg Carton for Pill Storage?

I have to take a bunch of supplements each day in additional to prescription meds. The supplements won't fit in my pill minder, so I've been trying to come up with something to put them in. I want to set aside a week's worth like I do with my other meds.

Can I use a polystyrene egg carton? Is there a proper way to clean it? If the egg carton is a bad idea, does anyone have a suggestion as to what I could use--short of buying another, bigger pill box?

    Thanks for any ideas!

You could use an ice cube tray if you don;t have pets or kids that might get into it

No kids or pets--but we don't own any ice cube trays. However, I'll bet they have them at the dollar store. If I have to buy something, I want it to be inexpensive, and something with a secondary use.

dollar store, fishing tackle box, one of the cheap ones or one of those cheap plastic divided tote boxes at Michaels for craft supplies.

Beads people use them to keep beads separated.

    2 problems with egg cartons

1: chickens carry food poisoning bacteria on the surface of eggs, even washed and commercially packed eggs. (salmonella)

2: the edges have ridges and valleys so they won't keep your pills from being jostled into the other cups and it won't keep them separate. Lots of work to pre pour, and all undone in a flash. Then if some of the pills look the same you can't figure out which is which.

I would go with a fishing tackle box, you can get some pretty cheap ones. Or ice cube trays!

I'd go for either the fishing tackle box, or there are containers like that for crafty things. I have some for beads. Something like that is better for travelling - you can just grab it and go.

Ok, I am way behind...but wanted to say I went to the dollar store and lucked out. They had a 7-day pill holder with four separate compartments for each day. And each day pops out, so I can carry a single day's pills in my purse. Problem solved!

Cele, thats what I did when I found out that I had to take vitamins daily too on top of my regular medication. I use a yellow 8 compartment pill box for the 7 days/wk + one slot for 'extra' and then I have a second matching pill box thats yellow for the vitamins. Each one is small enough for your purse that it shouldnt be a prob to carry. So far its worked for me!
