As previously mentioned, heating plastic that's not made to be heated can leach carcinogens into your food.

I think people enjoy the novelty of this method, but I have yet to figure out how it saves any time. It doesn't take long at all to clean a well-seasoned cast iron pan, and said pan will certainly heat faster than a big pot of water, and use less energy too.

    Just my thoughts.

This is so neat. I don't buy a lot of bags but they are just about free this week (my store is doubling up to and including $2) so I did buy bags, now I have to get more with the $1.50 off 2 boxes coupons. I am heading downstairs to the woodstove to boil some water while the kids and I make our baggies up. My son is thrilled he loves to cook on the woodstove and he loves omlelets!!

I made me one last night for dinner. I made it an egg and cheese omelet. I have alot of steamer bags given to me so I used one. My omelet was perfect.

I'm worried about the carcinogens too, but think I will use this in April, when eggs are so cheap for Easter! I've despaired trying to think of ways to use cheap eggs and freeze them that made sense.

I've tried separating the eggs and storing with a little salt or sugar, but then I forget to go to the freezer and get some when I need part of an egg an so threw most of them out.

I think I could freeze omlettes for us and then use them. Even if you didn't cook them in the bags, this would be an easy way to store the cheaper foodstuff ahead, you COULD cook it in a seasoned pan rather than the plastic.

    Thanks!

Ok we just made these and they were awesome. Hint: Dont put the cheese in and when you slide the omlete out put the cheese on top and then flop the omlete in half like a real omlete. My freezer bags say they are ok in the microwave so I am not to worried about cooking them.

    ZIPLOC OMELETS

This works great !!! Good when you're alone or when all your family is
together. Best feature is that no one has to wait for their special omelet
!!! Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with
    permanent marker.

    - Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the quart size Ziploc bag (not
more than 2) shake to combine them.

    - Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green
pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.

    - Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake.

    - Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

    - Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You
can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot
    of boiling water.

    - Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for
    everyone to be amazed.

    - Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved
in the process and a great conversation piece.

Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in
boiling water while you get ready. And in 13 minutes, you have a nice
    omlette for a quick breakfast!!!
I think this thread is worth bumping. These are wonderful and easy to make. I use steamer bags and they always come out perfect.

I will have to try these! Certainly sounds like a less messy way to make them.
