Ziploc Omelets
I got this from another board I go to. I think I'll try them.
ZIPLOC OMELETS
This works great !!! Good when you're alone or when all your family is
together. Best feature is that no one has to wait for their special omelet
!!! Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with
permanent marker.
- Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the quart size Ziploc bag (not
more than 2) shake to combine them.
- Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green
pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.
- Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake.
- Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.
- Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You
can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot
of boiling water.
- Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for
everyone to be amazed.
- Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved
in the process and a great conversation piece.
Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in
boiling water while you get ready. And in 13 minutes, you have a nice
omlette for a quick breakfast!!!

I saw this done at a party and was amazed!!! It was wild but it worked. I think it might make a good camping thing. I've got teens and they like to try different stuff.

Oh way to go!!! I gotta try it. Me being the freezer queen that I am, now I'm suddenly wondering about freezing these liquid bags ready to thaw and cook. Beaten together, mixing yolks and whites, eggs freeze nicely.

Nothing much, just break out of the shells, and scramble the yolks and whites before freezing. I've not tried the omelette yet, I'm not sure if some of my things might be a touch watery, such as onions or mushrooms.

What I like about this recipe and gotta try is that it's already prepared and individually packaged in serving portions ready to cook, just slip into boiling water, and cook.
I am guessing here with this one, but from experiance I wouldn't be cooking the egg in the bag till it had thawed, simply to avoid overcooked patches alongside runny in the middle still which might happen if the center hadn't quite thawed by the time the outer bits of frozen egg had cooked.

OK we made the omlettes last night (always game for a laugh me ) they tasted great and we all enjoyed them but something went wrong , the bags had disintegrated in the water , I can only assume the bags in France are different to elsewhere .

I was wondering about the bags also what kind of bags are you using I would think they would melt in boiling water

I would think freezer bags, rather than sandwich bags, would be more durable.

I used freezer bags so the mystery remains.
