jar opening tips?
I am always asking Gabe to open jars for me. Occasionally, I'll remember to use a rubber band to grip the lid and that works well. What jar opening tips do you use?

I have one of those rubber mesh grips, got a pack at store and gave some to my mom, work well. But I was brought up to gently whack side of lid with handle of butter knife to break seal, then twist off....works!

I've got a sawtooth opener under my cabinet, came with the house, but it is in the shape of a V and just slide the jar in and turn. Love it... when we move I'm taking that thing with me.

DH has bought me all different kinds of devices. However, I just hand it over to DD. She can open anything with ease.

I just put on one of my rubber cleaning gloves to open.

I turn the jar upside down and whack the bottom with the palm of my hand, and if that doesn't work I tap around the edge with the handle of a butter knife, and when all else fails I give it to DH to open

I do a combo of things too. Use the rubber grippy thing, tap the edges with our heavy ice cream scoop or meat mallet or hand off to dh.
Even though guys sometimes roll their eyes when you hand them the jars to open I think they secretly like doing it. It's a manly virile thing to do don'tcha know. Women swooning everywhere, even Olive Oyl... "Ooh Popeye you're SOOOOOOOOO strong"

The spongy, rubbery shelf liners you can buy at Dollar General in rolls really cheap is what I use to open jars. I just cut them up in different sizes and store them in a drawer nexy to the sink. Works like a charm!

I use the pointy bottle opener. I wedge the point just under the lid and flick a bit and 'wooosh' air gets in and then I can turn it and open it. But dont flick it too hard or else you mishape the lid and then it wont close properly or will leak later on. If its a jar with something sugary and stick in it, I wipe down the mouth of the jar with a damp cloth and wash out the lid clean to avoid more congealing of the sugars LOL
