    Default Natural flea control

got this from Mother Earth Living newsletter.....

At night, diligently place a dish of soapy water under a light near your pet’s bed to attract and trap fleas.

Treat your pet monthly with a homemade repellent. Place a thinly sliced lemon in a pint jug. Cover with boiling water and let the mixture soak overnight. In the morning, spray or rub the mixture into your pet’s skin and fur until damp, not wet.

I've tried both remedies before and they worked great until this summer. It's been so dry here this spring and summer, that when we finally did get rain, the sand fleas in the yard came out in force. Had to treat the yard and apply Frontline to get them under control. But, I'm thinking I can go back to the lemon treatment soon.

Barbara, I can't thank you enough....I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and the cheapest I have been able to buy flea meds has been $54/month...I'm not working so all I can do is either don't treat the babies which is not an option because I am not going to let my house get infested with fleas or charge it, which is what I have been doing. Since I'm getting ready to go to the grocery store, I'll add an extra lemon to the list....

Doesn't the lemon juice cause a reaction to the pet's skin - just think what it would do to yours if you left it on there?...
I've been told that feeding your dog garlic works great. The garlic odor oozes out of the animal's pores and fleas won't even jump on them.

I wondered about that, also. I'm assuming that the acid in the lemon juice dries out the fleas and egg so that they can't survive. Seems like it would dry the pet's skin out as well.

We had to finally break down and buy some Frontline for our cat. Not a bad price tho. Bought it online from Canada. A three pack for $29. Free shipping and handling.

My cat is old. When he's gone I won't have another pet, unless it lays eggs, lol.

I dont saturate my animals with the lemon juice mixture. I put it on their fur with my hands rubbing gently and then take a comb and just comb it the rest of the way. I have a rotty and many orphaned cats and have no problems with this mix. I would be the last one to do any thing detremental to an animals health since we take in unwanted cats and kittens. Snow & White (our new orphaned kittens)have been treated also.

I'm going to do both of these today! The sand fleas down here are horrible this year. We've already sprayed theyard, and the fleas are back!

We tried to use the garlic tabs, but my dog's breath became unbearable. We had to stop, he got so stinky.

We tried Advantix (sp?), and he had an allergic reaction to that. So far only the Frontline has really worked for us.
