What do you do when someone calls and says they’re coming over in 30 minutes? I’m sure this has happened to all of us at one time or another. Sometimes it seems as though guests come over on a day where the kids have run wild and everything is a mess. Here are some quick tips to get the house in shape fast:

Use a laundry basket to pick up miscellaneous items and store in a bedroom closet.
Close all doors to rooms not intended for guests.
Remove dishes from the sink or countertops.
Clear off the kitchen table.
Lightly dust the coffee table and other spots where guests will congregate.
Vacuum high traffic areas.
Burn scented candles in the bathroom and kitchen, or set out potpourri.
Relax and enjoy your company.

I have a friend who will place all of her dirty dishs in her bathtub (not in guest bathroom) and pull the shower curtain when unexpected guests drive up. I have a large wicker hamper that I throw everything in (not dishes, LOL) that's laying around, and then I put place it in the quest bedroom closet.
