Default Any tips on disposing of unrechargable batteries?

We dont have any place anywhere close to us to dispose of unrechargable batteries. I believe that everything in the house went all at once and we have a coffee can with the batteries in it. Just wondering where I would look or call in the area to find out where to take them.

I have seen recycle boxes in stores and even at libraries. I would call around. Call your garbage company.

We have bins here at work. Try calling office companies/businesses and asking if you can recycle your batteries in their bins. Also, some places, like a hearing society, a camera store or a Radio Shack might recycle batteries as well.

check with whomever picks up the garbage. a couple of times a year the sanitation dept here does a hazardous waste pick up where they will take batteries, paint (has to have been allowed to dry in the can) and other chemicals.they will also take car tires.
