The voice of experience here.....

Are you sitting? Ok, no joke....preparation H. The ooey, gooey ointment type (like vaseline). It's stinky, greasy, makes a mess but it helps a LOT. I've tried every single thing ever known to woman....this works the very best. Sorry you got burned.

I usually dab on some witch hazel, then top with aloe gel.

This will sound weird but here goes.....pickle juice, put some in a bowl and use cotton balls to apply.....you smell like a pickle until taking your next shower but it works well, (I don't know if it is the vinegar or what)...it takes the burn away some how, then apply the aloe to heal the skin.

You don't need the pickle juice, it is the vinegar. Mom always used cider vinegar, but I'm sure white vinegar would work too, takes the heat right out of it and the smell goes away quickly.
If you are burned badly, I wouldn't put any ointment on it. If it is bad enough to turn into blisters, you will have to wipe it off and that hurts REALLY bad!
For a bad burn, just use the vinegar, cold towels or you can make a paste out of baking soda and water (don't have a clue how it works but it does, LOL). After any of them you can use aloe vera (straight from the plant) or Solarcaine Aloe Extra Burn Relief You can get it in a drug store or Wally's. A friend told me about once when I burned bad on my shoulders and it works great!
You can read about it here. http://www.drugstore.com/qxp26539_33...relief_gel.htm~~ Dee ~~

In addition to all of the external suggestions here, I always take ibuprofen or something like aleve to reduce the swelling and pain. This will also help reduce the fever in the effected areas.

The funny thing about putting in on blisters even is that we always wear an old t-shirt and there's no need to wipe it off. It sort of soaks in and it helps so much more than any of the standard remedies. We've tried em all.... . Had lots and lots of sunburns around here. If you apply it as soon as you know you're burned, you won't blister. The burn will be 1/2 to 2/3's better by the next morning if you'll sleep in it. No joke, it's amazing.

As kids our mum would dab on cold milk from the fridge. I called her and she said whole milk works best (instead of 2% or 1%) I guess its the butterfat in milk that makes it feel better,( hmmmm who knew)

Sorry Lisa, I didn't mean to criticize (sp) honestly. I was thinking about the time I got a super bad burn on my shoulders that blistered the size of baseballs. Really, really painful!
It is amazing the OTC products sold for one thing can be used for so many other uses.

This isn't frugal, but Solarcaine (sp?) is the BEST by far OTC remedy. I got a bad burn after a yard sale we had last weekend. And I mean I was lobster lady. I used the solarcaine spray that night and the next morning, I was tan.
