    Default gasoline tips?

I thought we could brainstorm some ideas to help save on the high cost of gasoline.

    1. Make sure your tires are inflated properly.

    3. If you see a light red or a "stale" light (been green for a long time) in front of you, take your foot off the gas and prepare to stop.

    4. Don't make "jackrabbit" starts.

    5. Do your oil changes regularly. It makes your car engine run more efficiently.

    6. DON'T drive with your windows down. The drag makes you use more gas.

    7. Consolidate trips, plan your errands so you can use less gas.

    8. Walk wherever you can. Good for you, too!

    9. If you can afford it, run a tank of premium through your car. It cleans the engine and makes it run better.

    10. If you can carpool with someone to go somewhere like shopping, etc., do it.

    11. If you have a "park and ride" service in your town, or public transportation, give it a try.

Figure out how to get more bang for your buck. I.E. Here in Iowa we have the Kum and Go gas stations. With gas purchases, they give the paper out free, so I time my gas purchases so I can get my Sunday paper free so I don't have to pay for coupons.

I've heard driving iwth the tailgate down on trucks helps.

    Have a gas friendly vehicle.

When buying a new car check to see what level of gas it takes. I just bought a 02 Grand Prix--super charger and it takes Premium gas. I love the car and do not travel much so it is not such a big deal for me. But someone who has to buy a lot of gas this could really add up.

I do a lot of my grocery shopping at a store that gives out 'Fuelperks'. Money off each gallon of gas, which accumulates with your grocery bills. I have gotten absolutely FREE tanks of gas this way, esp. when my sons are home and my grocery bills go up.

Plan your trips so that you can make multiple stops in one trip instead of making multiple trips out and about.

Make sure that your air filter is clean. If it is dirty, it will restrict the flow of air and have a detrimental effect on your fuel consumption.

Use your cruise control when you are able.

Clean out your car and get rid of extra weight in it, even an extra 50 pounds can hurt your gas milage.
