Default Yeah, I didn't have to call the the plummer

My kitchen sink was plugged up. The side that the disposal is on. The disposal is not working, so the food was stuck. It was really starting to smell very bad. I didn't know if I could pour any liquid plummer type stuff in a disposal, so I tried the recipe for keeping my drains clean. Every month I use baking soda and vinager followed by a kettle full of boiling water down every drain. After two doses of the baking soda/vinager treatment, the drain is running smoothly.

Great tip! Thank you!! I've also heard you can put half of a lemon down the disposal, to keep it smelling fresh. Anyone use this?

Woo Hoo! You do know that the disposal has a reset button on it that will sometimes get it working again, right?

Yes, it is on the bottom. Everytime I reset it the disposal kicks off again.

^ Mine did that. I unplugged it for awhile, then plugged it back in and it was fine.

Of course it also did that when I had a bottle brush stuck in there.

There's also a hole in the bottom of the disposal that an allan wrench fits into....turn it back and forth a few times to unstick the disposal.

Thank you all. I will try that. I would love to have it working again so I can freshen it with the lemon and some ice. It still has a slight smell to it.

    This was a good tip.

I recently noticed mine was slowing down--I had to run the disposal more often while doing the dishes because it would back up more frequently, so I did this last night and it even sounds better now.

I've printed out a "recipe" for it and added it to my household tips file for future reference. Thanks!!!

I am glad it worked for you. I think I learned about this for the TWG, but I am not sure. I have done this many times especially in the shower since I tend to shed alot of hair.

BTW my husband thinks I am a genuis now.
