well water stains
I need a frugal tip on how to get the yellow out of our whites without spending a half a million dollars on cleaning solutions! Our well water seems to turn everything yellow and I can't get it out...even with bleach. Thanks

Our well water does the same thing, and I have yet to figure out how to get the stains out. With us I have figured out how to prevent it though. Has taken me years to figure out it only happens if I do a load of whites when a lot of water was just used for other purposes. For example would be all 4 kids have just taken baths/showers, when they were done the dishwasher was ran...if I was to then wash a load of whites they get that yellow stain on them. I now wash whites first thing in the morning when the only water used was me flushing the toilet because nobody else is up yet.

Can you call your county extension agency and see if they have some suggestions?

I will try both suggestions! Thanks

I know about a product called "iron out" but I've never
used it. We have a lot of iron in our well water too. I hope the other ideas work, as I keep putting off buyng the iron out.

The only thing I can think of is to have a filter put only on the water line to your washer.

When I lived with my parents, long time ago, we used to have to use Iron Out. It worked wonderful for all of the well water stains, rust, all of that! Good luck.

I have well water and it has iron in it and my whites get yellow also. I use the iron out product the other girls talked about and it does work. Thank goodness because I am not fond of the color yellow. Good luck with your wash.

The only thing that has helped us is using a good water softner system. I used to deal with major rust stains too but now everything is fine. To me it was a worthwhile investment. The water softner($400 not sure, will look & revise) is from Sears & the iron out bags of salt are about $5 for a 40lb bag and it holds about 3 bags ? & that lasts quite a while. Shampoo & soap go further with softened water...

I must have really hard water or something because I have tried the iron out and it hasn't worked at all. My mother told us that we need a softener system like another lady on here said, but my husband says that we don't have enough pressure to put it on yet. To get enough pressure we will have to dig a new well....can't afford that yet. Thanks for all your ideas!
