Keep meat fresh longer
Seeing the post about the ground beef turning brown made me think of sharing this.
My dad taught me a neat trick to keep meet fresher in the freezer. Remove it from the package and freeze it in portion sizes till mostly or totally frozen, then quickly dip it in ice cold water. That will encase it in a layer of ice that will keep the air from reaching it. Then wrap or seal as usual. When you thaw it the ice just melts away and it looks pretty much like it did when you first froze it. Also this keeps freezer burn away, because the ice is the first to dry out, rather than the meat. Any meat I plan to keep for very long I do this with.
