    Default dough ornaments

anyone know how to make the dough they use in the christmas ornaments you see at the craft fairs? my son wants to make some, but the recipe we used a few years ago required so much salt, it made our ornaments very gritty looking.

ok found the cinnamon dough recipe.

    1cup cinnamon
    1TBSP cloves
    !TBSP nutmeg
    3/4 cup applesauce
    2TBSP white glue

mix the spices in a bowl then add applesauce and glue stirring until well blended. work mixture until dough is smooth and ingreidents are throughly mixed. divide into 4 portions and rool each portion between 2 pieces of waxed paper to 1/4 inch thickness. cut with cookie cutters. use straw or toothpick to make hole for hanging. place on wire rack to dry for several days turning daily for even drying. do not eat.
i have made these with good success.

this is her clay christmas ornaments that i'm not sure if we tried, but it las less salt than the salt dough recipe i have used in the past.

    4cups flour
    1 cup salt
1tsp powdered alum (it's in the spice section of store)
    1 1/2 cup water

mix ingredients in large bowl. if dough is too dry, work in another tbsp of water with your hands. dough can be rolled or molded and can be colored with a few drops of food coloring. if rolling, roll to 1/8 inch thick on floured board. cut with cookie cutters dipped in flour. make hole for hanging. bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 30 minutes in 250 degree oven turn and bake another 1 1/2 hours until hard and dry. remove and cool. once dry you can paint and then seal with varnish. if they feel rough, they can be lightly sanded before painting.

as i said, i can't remember if i tried out this one or not.

i have seen recipes on the net for bread and glue dough to make things out of, but i havn't tried any of those.

ooo i think im going to try the applesauce one. we made a little batch of something last night that turned out pretty well. i poly-ed them today so they should be dried by tomorrow. coop is so proud of them too! we have a christmas tree, santa, cooper fishing, and him and his daddy shining a flashlight on an 'marmadillo rat' (translation, armadillo. he loves to go to the woods searching for the things!)
