    Default Use for newspaper

I have been wanting to cut down on my use of plastic bags. I use them mainly when cleaning the cat litter. So instead of buying paper bags for this, well, the light finally went on. I just started making large "cups" by folding three pieces of newspaper. Learned this as a kid. So now instead of just putting newspaper in the recycle bin I have a use for all the newspapers from coupon collecting. The cups just make it easier to use instead of just wrapping it up in newspaper. Hope this might help someone else.

Can you explain how to fold it? I tried finding instructions online before but couldn't. I wanted to do this to line the inside of my kitchen waste bin.

I will try. You might want to try looking up Origami (sp?). I just tried giving directions but boy were they getting confusing. Think about those hats made out of folded paper. It is basically like that just up-side-down. (Just to give you an idea.)

    Default website

Here is a website you might want to try. I just did a quick lookup.

    http://dev.origami.com/images_pdf/fries.pdf

Basically I just use the the "cup" part. Not the fries. Also I found three pieces of newspaper makes the cup more sturdy.

I use it for kitty-litter! We shred any paper that comes into the house that isn't important material and dump it into a big bin beside the litter box. The cats took it on easily and I love it, free (we get the newspapers from the recycling room at our building, and I just clip out the crossword puzzles and coupons I might need) and toss the rest in the shredder.

    Smile Gardening and fires

Among other uses for old newspapers, I use it as mulch when I garden, and we also used them as fire starters for our wood stove.

I line my veggies draws in the fridge with newspaper. Catches any drips or icky stuff, just pull out and throw away when it gets icky. Keeps excess moisture from building up as well.

Also, we vermicompost (compost with worms) so shred newspaper and use as worm bedding.

Unfrotnuately the newspaper subscription comes Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and we only wanted/ read Sunday's, so end up recycling a lot more than we would like to.

Any cruddy garbage that can't go down the disposal, I wrap in newspaper.

I put it under the dog dishes. Put it under the chopping board when chopping very wet food, to catch the moisture. My MIL used to clean windows with it, but I don'tlike this method, as the newsprint comes off on any painted sills and frames, and you have a worse mess.
