bump from 2008
11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I use the ped egg on my feet. Really works to get rid of the dead skin. Depending on how dry my feet are I will put on regular lotion or udderly smooth afterwards. My feet are always smooth.

I also found the egg works well, but for me it seemed like my calluses return very quickly when I use the ped egg. The Checi pedicure file (I got mine at the Sally Beauty Supply store) work just as well as the ped egg, but my calluses don't come back so quickly. It cost the same as the egg did, so no financial benefit of buying one over the other.

I dye my own hair and only get it cut about every 2-3 years. I have VERY culy hair naturally and because of that it doesn't appear to grow very fast. I have to use product in my hair or I look like a big red q-tip. I use Fructise (sp?) products though, they actually work better than those more expensive salon products.
My dd and ds's products all come from the Dollar Tree and they work fine.
I do my own mani/pedis. I do splurge on OPI Nail Envy, but a bottle lasts me almost a year, so that's $1 a month for it.
I use mineral make-up from Sally and use brushes for it all, which reduces the amount you use, so it lasts forever.

I also use a diva cup, have used it for almost two years and love it. No more tampons, pads or whatever. Plus it it so much easier and better for the environment.
I water down shampoo and body wash. I alternate between ivory bar soap and bodywash. Once in a while I scrub with these scrubbie gloves i have. Put them on, rub a piece of soap and voila!
Use baking soda and water for facial scrub, bar soap to remove make up
make up to work everyday:powder, blush and mascara. I get whatever is on sale when needed (once a year or less)
friend does my hair for very little
I try to keep my beauty routines simple,it's just easier and in yhe end cheaper also. I do feel it is inportant to look good to feel good .

I make my own toothpaste and deodorant. I only use coconuts oil as a moisturizer and I use it to style my hair in place of mouse or gel (won't work for everyone). So basically I have a lot less clutter in my bathroom and I only have to buy one large jar of coconut oil to make everything I need.
Since eliminating meat and dairy I get little to no body Oder and my hair can go three days without even looking like I need to wash it. This saves a lot of shampoo.
I have stream lined the makeup I wear. I only need a few basic items and I only buy those when they are on sale. Sticking with the same thing saves me from buying something new to try and wasting it when I don't like it.
As for saving money on hair cuts. Well I admit I'm not the most frugal but I do skip on the styling and blow dry. That saves a lot and I just go right home.

I really need some tips for this. I get my hair cut professionally because I need to look halfway decent for my work with corporate and nonprofit clients. I dye it myself but my haircut costs a fortune.
I have used a diva cup for 4 years -love it. I don't wear much makeup.

I spent a fortune on my straightener and I do use Aussie freeze spray since I have a short sassy haircut and need to have the spray.
I always always wipe the blades and sides of my straightener so nothing builds up on it as it will, trust me! It killed the last one so I had over $100 in stupid tax replacing the last one.
Wipe when just unplugged but make sure you completely have your hand covered with a towel on both sides or use an oven mitt.
Trip to ER for burn= more than new straightener! The math never lies, budget in INK!
Amount of Free items 2012 $391.33

Debt #3 12/31/12 $3648.83

A couple of months ago I bought a pedicure kit at Walgreens (on sale of course!) so now it's home pedi's for me!
We also use store brand toothpaste and mouthwash.
El Cheapo conditioner makes fantastic shaving "cream" for your legs. Lasts a lot longer than a can of shaving cream, makes your skin soft, and in the long run is cheaper than even the store brand of cream would be.
We use Suave or White Rain shampoo. I wait until it's on sale for under $1 and then stock up. Right now I'm watching for a sale as I am down to 4 bottles in my reserve. On 11-22-85 I married the man of my dreams.

I use honey and old coffee grinds for a scrub in the shower every week, and honey and turmeric for a face mask.
I use witch hazel or diluted ACV for toners.
All eyeshadows are the same to me, so I get mine from the dollar store and use a good base.
Keeping my eyebrows arched saves on makeup because it gives me a polished look without much makeup.
I bought an at home foot soaker on sale so that I can give myself professional style pedicures. The Enemy of Best isn't Worst. The Enemy of Best is Just Fine.

I only wear chapstick as my only makeup. Jason and I get a haircut a couple times a year (sometimes more often if my mom thinks we need one) and Merrick gets a few a year. I water down the shampoo and conditioner.

I purchased a product dispenser for the shower wall. I did this first for the kids bathroom as they would use lots of soap in one squirt. I now fill the dispenser (then hide the bottles) and they press the button and it dispenses an acceptable amount of product. This dispenser has saved us more than the $20 it cost. We were so pleased that we put one in our shower.
