Default This may not be a new tip/coffee related

But if you make a pot of coffee and don't drink it all, save the leftover in a jar, refrigerate. Reheat in the microwave at will. Coffee is way too expensive (and good!) to waste. :cup:

    another coffee tip:

add a pinch of salt to the coffee grounds before brewing coffee so that it comes out less bitter.

sometimes i've added a little salt to a cup of coffee because it's too bitter.

    try it!

I'll try the salt thing next pot I make. That's why I add soymilk is to cut the bitterness a little.

I cannot drink reheated coffee - it just does not taste the same to me and it does weird things to my non-dairy creamer when I stir it in. I do, however, freeze leftover coffee in the summer and use it in blended drinks or as ice for my iced coffee.

There's a recipe somewher called texas brownies. It uses leftover coffee in it and is very very yum. Just one more way to use it up.

I have noticed this too, when I use soymilk! I still reheat because I can't bear to toss it, but if it has soymilk in it, it sort of breaks up...?

Ooh, this reminded me: It's a little trick when baking any chocolate items to add just a tiny bit of instant coffee because it brings out the chocolate flavor. So I guess you could use regular old leftover coffee too. I learned this from Ina Garten

acidcookie - I think she meant reheated freshly brewed coffee - before you put the condiments into it. That being said I have gone to Tim Hortons on my coffee binge and purchased 2 LG coffee's fixed the way I like. I let one cool to room temp them put it into the fridge to reheat later in the day/evening. Nothing seperated for me - but you're using soy milk....maybe thats part of the do not cook with soy milk silent rule? I think the clumps are visually unappealing but the prepared coffee would be safe to drink.

I put leftover coffee into a thermos and it keeps nicely, without getting too bitter or strong. If it gets cold, I put in some ice for iced coffee.

I am not sure where I found this...somewhere here on the net.
"Devil's food or chocolate cake mix is vastly improved by substituting brewed coffee for the water, ounce per ounce. Make sure it is not too hot. Subbing coffee and throwing in a handful of chocolate chips is the easiest way I've found to seriously amp a boxed mix. It makes a mean bundt, which is more elegant and homespun looking than a sheet cake, I think"

    larabelle:

    you're absolutely right!
the coffee (you can use brewed or even instant!) makes the chocolate that much stronger tasting... and who doesnt want an extra chocately tasting cake??

that's how I've made it for a long time... and you just need a little. Not a whole pot or anything! lol
