Diva Cup
Anyone try this?? I've thought about it. It's a silicone (latex free)cup that is inserted instead of a tampon. They are washable and last for years....so the cost is minimal in comparison to tampons...and it isn't suppossed to leak. Right now they are on sale also...normally $32.50 for one and right now they are $17.89 or &17.50 dep on the model.
Here is their website.

I have a Mooncup, which is the same thing as a Diva cup. I really like it, it's comfortable, easy to use, and good for the environment. The only thing I've noticed is that it fits better if you have a heavier flow, so for the first couple of days of my period, it works great. But towards the end, when the flow lightens up, it won't stay in properly, and I still end up wearing a pad or giving up altogether and using a regular tampon.

Another thing you can use is natural sea sponges. I used those exclusively for years. You just rinse them out and put them back in.
They are about a dollar and I usually use them for 2-3 months. Get one that looks bigger then what you need that is quite dense and hard to squeeze. Get it wet under the faucet and put it in. Works wonderfully.
I would still be using them except the bathroom at work does not have enough privacy to rinse them out.

Oh sure, now I get these tips! LOL I just had a hysterectomy in November. Ah well...... Kinda like that sea sponge one. Do you use anything in particular to sterilize it that won't ultimately cause any issues? May have to pass these tips on.

I tried one of those cups before and they really freak me out. You don't know when they're gonna leak, and if they do you're in big trouble. Think of a dam bursting. lol. They are hard to take out without spilling anything, too.
Sea sponges sound like a good idea for home. I hate spending money on tampons, and it looks as though the price of OB went up. I won't buy other brands because of the wasteful packaging and the space they take up. AND they don't work as well. I just tried a sample Tampax and it just isn't as good.

I've never been able to get these cup things to stay in. I guess not good for a gal with a tilted uterus.

I no longer have need of these products. I'd like to get my daughters to use these but I have a feeling they would think it was yucky.

I find it so strange that a tampon with LESS packaging costs MORE money! No applicator to wrap around the tampon=higher cost?? Something is not right. I would rather use OB too, but the costs keep me buying Target brand cardboard applicator tampons. At least I get the cardboard instead of plastic so it's flushable & biodegradable.

I use the Diva sometimes. I also have trouble cause I have light flow and it doesn't work as well sometimes
You could knit/crochet your own Tampons.

For sterilizing the sea sponge I simply soak it in hydrogen peroxide for 24 hours after my period is over. Then I sit it out to dry and put it away til next month. You have to make sure it is 100% dry before putting it away of course.

amelia
funny you should post about this. i just got one. i purchased mine for around $18 too. i only received it last week and haven't had the chance to use it yet. when i do (should be soon) i will definitely come back and post what i thought ---fingers crossed---- of course it's unreturnable. but if it works bye bye tampons/pads. im very hopeful from what ive read other places on the net.
im a light to medium flow and every once in a while getting a heavy flow. i bought the diva #2 since im over 30.

I use the brand Instead and I love it!! I have a heavy flow, too, and I've never had a problem. There is some minor spillage when removing it but I only use one/day. I put in one in the AM and take it out before bed. (during the night I use a pantyliner...I do not bleed when I am horizontal so even though I have a heavy flow a panty liner works fine for nighttime.)
Anyway, I'll never go back to tampons!
