I put pans/bowls of water on top of the heating vents in the rooms, it has really helped take the dryness out of the house.
In fact, smiled the other day when I realized the one pan I'm using is the same one I remember my Grandma using when I was a little girl

indoor water fountain works well for me
and the sound of the water is sort of relaxing
I sometimes add some lavender essential oil for scent

Ditto on the fountain. I used to do the water on the stove thing -- if you put some whole spices in it your house will also smell nice. But I haven't done that in a long time. The fountain is in the bedroom where we really need it -- works for us.

I had a humidifier and hated having to clean it. What I do now, especially in the bedroom, if the dryness begins to bother me is wet a towel at night and hang in it in the room. By morning - if it's really dry - I have more humidity in the room and a clean towel that I just fold up and put away again. No cleaning.
However, now that I dry my laundry indoors, I haven't had to do this for a long time.Donna

i was told to use a crockpot on high with the lid off instead of the stove top. Suppose it's safer and uses less energy.
Does anyone know?

Higher humidity will make you feel better physically, will make you look better, and is better for your house. It will also save you heating bills as humid air feels warmer than dry air.
We have a humidifier. I also let drying laundry add humidity. But I like the crock pot idea; might try that.
A problem we have is the calcium content of our hard water. We have a wood stove and I have kept pots on it with water, but the calcium builds up incredible hard white crusts on the pots.
One last idea is to wet some washcloths and lay them over your floor vents.Spiritual:

I just have a small humidifier. Cleaning it seemed terrible at first, but now every so often I run it for a bit with vinegar in the water. Gets off all that hard water build up!

I have a humidifier at one end of the house, and I do the pan at the other end. I'm going to try the crockpot idea, though! I have 4 crockpots, so I can even put one in the laundry room (the dryer kills the humidity levels in there)

I'm wondering if putting a pot or bowl of water on top of a radiator or floor heating vent would help? the heat should theoretically help with the moisture/evaporation. You'd need to make sure the container could withstand the heat of the heating unit though.
