Brenda what we do around here is to take a sinus pill just as if we have a sinus problem and that makes the ear drain. Most of the time that works for us. You can also try sweet oil in the ear (warming it first but don't get it too hot) and let it sit in the ear by laying with that ear up for a good while. Put cotton in the ear to hold the oil in there and keep cold air out. Take aspirin or tylenol and do this stuff for a few days.....may not work for you but it usually does for us.

Thanks! Could you please tell me do you warm it up first? Do you leave the peroxide in for awhile?

    Garlic oil.

Puncture a garlic oil pill and squeeze it into the affected ear canal. Tilt head so the oil covers the whole inner surface and then drain out the excess. Everyone at our house does this at the slightest ear pain and it has never taken more than 24 hrs. for an ear infection to clear up.

I was just going to say peroxide. I used to use it all the time (warmed up) and let it sit in my ear until it stopped bubbling. Now my daughter has a double ear infection but it was so bad, we had to go to the drs. She's on antibiotics and numbing drops for it because th epain was so bad.

You could use olive oil also.

I use a heating pad or zap a moist handtowel in the microwave and put it in a ziplock bag, cover with cloth napkin and put that on my ear or neck or what ever hurts several times a day. Very soothing for me.

(Most MD's in our area are not treating ear infections with antibiotics currently.)

    Hope you feel better soon.

This must be the season. Our son was in such pain last week that he was up all night crying and kicking because of ear pain. It came on so suddenly! Unfortunately he's on antibiotics. Normally we use a heating pad and a warmed wash cloth for 1/2 a day and the pain goes away. We have used the sinus drying OTC meds before with good results too. Here they do treat ear infections with meds but I'll be sure to try the peroxide treatment next time. I hope you are feeling much better soon!

We do the decongestant & peroxide thing here. Works great and those bubbles are kinda neat, lol.

My mom always used hot salt water on us. Let it sit in your ear for 5-10 minutes and then use a dropper and put some in your nose too. It helps dry everything up. But you will smell the ocean whenever you sneeze for a few days.

    A few to try:

    - peroxide, like others mentioned
    - rubbing alcohol will also dry out the ear. In fact, many commercial ear drops are mostly alcohol.
    - warmed olive oil (sweet oil is just olive oil)
    - blow a hair dryer across the opening of the ear. Not into it, just alongside your head so that the ear catches a bit of the breeze.
