    Default Apple Peels

I save my apple peels when peeling apples for pies, applesauce etc. I freeze them and take them directly from the freezer and shred them in my blender. They shred into a fine wet powder. I add the shredded apple peels to my oatmeal when cooking along with some raisins. I top the oatmeal with butter, white or brown sugar or syrup, and I top with nuts. This makes delicious oatmeal. I also add the shredded peels to pancakes, waffles, oatmeal cookies and tea breads. It adds nice texture and a great flavor.

In a million years I never would have thought of this....what a GREAT FRUGAL idea. I will have to try it when my apple trees are in season.

Sounds good, but you really don't need to peel your apples for cooking -- I never do.

~That's very interesting! I think I'd be too worried about pesticides on the peel to try that myself though. If I get some organic apples I may try it!~

I dry mine in a dehydrator and then crush with cinnamon sticks to make a simmering potpourri. Have also dried various citrus peels for the same purpose.
Nothing can taste as good as being thin will feel.

What a great idea. I have to admit I've never heard of doing this. Another great way to not waste food. Thanks.

Tater - I'd forgotten about potpourri mixes. I'll have to try these again.

Great idea! Thanks for sharing it. Apple pectin is VERY good for you also, and this is an easy way to get a little in naturally.
