Default second use for a old dated coffeetable

If you see a nice solid hardwood coffee table at a second hand store or flea market and the top is in good shape ( but the peice is dated and old from the 60's) you can buy it and cut the legs off with a jigsaw and place atop a section of those wire shelves ( so its counter height) and make a nice open kitchen island.
I recently did this ( last week) and was sure in my coffeetable hunt to measure the inside under the table to make sure the poles of the wire shelving would be easily inside the frame of the table.
You can buy a strong ( holds 350 pounds per shelf at costco) shelf for cheap ( my costco they are 14.95 for a 5 shelf metal unit this week) and a solid maple coffeetable top with sides that can be raised goes for 35 ( in my area) .. woor restorative is 8 dollars and a big container of WAX is 4 ( at my local lowes) and you have a unique, updated looking...
very cool kitchen island for about 60 dollars...
maybe less if you already have the coffeetable.
    ps..........
a jigsaw is a great investment for things like this.... and you will find all types of uses for it... they cost about 30 dollars. If you dont have one.... think about getting one.

Good idea. Right now, we have recycled an old coffee table iwth shelves under in, and turned it into a train table for ds, with bins on the shelves hodling toys.

    ?
If I find out how to post in the gallery, you will see all my costco stuff on the shelves... lol !!!!!!!!!!!
It is very nice. My new husband of almost a year is amazed.. as we shopped for a kitchen island and we didn't like what we found for the money.

saw your kitchen island in your gallery... WOW!! that is very attractive. I'm gonna keep my eye open for a coffee table top and I can see that being a nice sofa table as well.

    thanks for sharing.

be sure you measure the outside diameter of the shelving and use the right coffetable top that will slide over the top. You can buy C clamps to attach the metal shelving legs to the table frame, they are 4 c clamps for 59cents at lowes.

    measure, measure, measure.

    will make your job easy.
