being a consumer
I had to buy a new stove recently. When they delivered it, I went to see when they took the stove out of the truck and took the box off and inspected in in the daylight.
I found several little scratches and a peice of metal that was mis-shapen, the piece that holds up the glass on the front door.... and finerprints between the glass were visible ( guy making it didn't wear gloves I guess) ...I pointed it all out to the delivery guy who then called the company, which was maytag.
The company offered me 50 dollars off...... I told them I wanted at least 100 off because of the cosmetic problems and they said ok.
I tested the stove and went over the functioning of it carefully that night to make sure everything worked.
It was fine other than the cosmetic stuff.
Just a tip when buying anything new to carefully inspect it before they bring it into your house.
They will usually go down when they are at the door to deliver it and your outside with them and discover inperfections.
btw, I'm very happy with the 100 off... I would have jumped all over it if that was at the store and 100 off.

It's a good idea to check appliances for imperfections. Years ago we got $100 off a refrigerator that we found had a dent in the side. Turned out it didn't show because this side was hidden by the cabinets, but I bet if we hadn't asked they wouldn't have said anything.

You have made a very valid point!!! When hubby & I purchased a new bedroom outfit we didn't take the pieces out of the boxes until the delivery guys were gone...the corner of the bureau had been broken off and someone had glued it back on haphazardly...I was so irritated!!!
The company refused to do anything, since we couldn't prove it was delivered that way...needless to say we will never do business with that company ever again. But, we did learn a valuable lesson."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

Thank you!!!
I just let my dh read your post. We are remodeling
our kitchen and will be getting 4 new appliances
and we will inspect them just as you say.
We had a dryer delivered about a year ago and
I wasn't home when it came. While I was looking
it over I discovered a dent on the back of the top
of it. It didn't happen in delivery otherwise the
paint would have been chipped off. So you advice
is very sound.

My husband bought a table saw at Menards recently. When he got it home he discovered that part of the metal was bent and 2 screws were missing! Even though he bent the metal back and could get the screws for under a dollar, I made him call the store to see if they would give him a discount on it. They gave him $45 on an $89 saw!

Very good point!!! Thank you for sharing! and if you calculate $100 into how long it took you to look over that appliance... you' d be making a hefty hourly wage!
