coffee bags large and small & bread tags
I have 3 burlap coffee bags from local roasters out in the yard full of wet leaves, ready to go to the dump tomorrow, they'll come back and I'll refill them. (Unroasted coffee comes in 50 and 100 lb burlap bags.)
Originally I got them so I could fill them in the fall and leave 'em to rot over winter. But I got them mid-winter, so we're using them now. No buying leaf bags for me this year! I paid $1 a piece for two, but the 3rd one was at a roaster that gives them away, so for $2 I've got leaf bags for the entire season I expect. (We have .9 acre and a lot of oak trees = a lot of leaves!)
btw, the lined bags that coffee beans/ground coffee comes in from the market are handy for "wet" garbage and we used to put bones in them too.
The plastic tags that come on bread I use to label other things in the fridge or freezer. I've written on the tags directly with a sharpie, but that can rub off. I found using ball point pen on masking tape (or post-it correction tape, if you've got it) works.
Close bag with a twist tie like you would anyway. Cut a piece of tape at least twice the length of the tag. Fold it over the end of the tag so it covers both sides of the tag. Label. Put the tag on the bag and put in the freezer or fridge. You have a neatly labeled, nicely sealed bag of whatever. I keep the tags in an old small babyfood jar with a lid in a small drawer, the tape and pen are in there too. I also use the bread tags as labels inside of bags with wrapped food, but not directly on the food
