Default Very frugal alternative to softsoap type refills or replacements

I'd read a long time ago about it, somewhere and have been doing it every since thought I'd give a heads up to everyone about it. I've been refilling my liquid soap dispensers (hand washing) with cheap shampoo. Since the experts are warning against anti bacterial soaps anyway, and most shampoos are more gentle than say, dish soap, I've been using it this way. It's really cheap and effective and ofcourse smells good too. So there's my tip for the day....or the week, or month

I finally rumaged through my cupboards last week and while I still have tons of handsoaps and bodywashes....I have no shampoo. The only half bottle I had left was green apple suave which dries out my hair 100%. I dumped that into my soap dispenser and diluted it to make it have a more soaplike texture. Its wonderful .... except it dries my hands out to no end.

The only good thing out of this besides finding another use for something that I can't use and not spending $ is that it keeps my sink real clean - as in barely needs a weekly cleaning. Does anyone else find this with the shampoo or bubble bath too???

I have mixed a bit of watered-down hand lotion in sometimes. I have also mixed in some shampoo samples that I hated.

Actually you can disolve regular bar soaps with water... grate them up and mix with water in a pot and warm slowly til all the soaps mixed in and vwalah you have liquid soap.

what a great tip about using shampoo and bubble bath too. They have some really nice smelling ones out there. I sometimes like to use shampoo as body wash and I don't think it's as drying as some of the cheaper body washes.

I frequently use cheap shampoos, but hadn't thought of using cheap bubble bath. Good idea.

~I can use the bar soap into liquid soap trick but the shampoos and bubble baths dry out my hands. I've tried alot of things for the sake of frugality but if I HAVE to apply lotion after every wash I'm not saving any money.~

I use the foam hand soap only for the fact that it is easier for the kids to completely rinse off. But then I reuse the container and make my own. You just put about a half inch to an inch of liquid soap in the bottom and then fill with warm water, put the cap back on and shake, when you pump it it comes out foamy. I bought a huge container of regular liquid soap at our Sam's club (about $7.00) and it has lasted me over a year and a half doing it that way.

I have body washes that I am alergic to all over my body. So I put them in the soap dispenser - my hands aren't alergic !! It always smells so good. This way I don't waste the gifts I get - (at least the ones that don't get re-gifted).
