Red face Wasted Food Accountability Thread 7/8-7/12

~Someone started a thread like this last year and I found it very enlightening and habit changing when I started to record what I was throwing away. So today I cleaned my freezers and had to toss 1/2 lb of cooked pork that had been freezer-burned and a container of really old leftover baked potatoes. Yesterday I cleaned out my fridge and tossed some yucky pasta sauce and 2oz of evaporated milk. Ok, your turn. What did you toss today?~

Yesterday I had to toss a 1/2 bag of spinach, an open container of lunch meat and an open package of provolone cheese slices

I was out of town for a week & forgot to properly long-term store them before I left....bummer dude

Yesterday I tossed 3 containers of yogurt and some leftover potato salad. Today I did good though, I re-heated the leftover boston butt, added some bbq sauce and we had it for lunch.

Yesterday I tossed 1/2 pound raw ground beef. I didn't know it was in the fridge! Oops. :/

I've been doing a lot better though.

I tossed leftover carrots and corn from last week, usually I use to make soup, BUT do not feel like soup in summer.

Leftover fetticine(sp) with tuna went into the trash today.

It was just a small bowl.

Great thread, I just this week said to myself I needed to be more aware of this myself. Last week I ended up throwing away two whole containers of mushrooms, some spinach, and a cucumber that had gone bad. I'd just completely forgotten they were in there.

Doing much better this week. But the one food item I did throw away, strawberry tops, could've been put to use and I didn't think about it until after I'd chucked them. I should've walked them out back to the woods for the deer and whatevers, d'oh!

    What a wonderful idea.
Monday nite I toss for Tues trash day, and lately I've had to toss more than I like.
With taking a almost week long camping trip we had several containers of leftovers tossed, unused salad & coleslaw mix.
I will be paying closer attention to this from now on...I hate the thought of wasting food, and the money it costs.

~Last night I threw out 1/4 of the romaine lettuce I'd bought because I waited a little too long to work it into my menu. Urg. Of course, when I say throw out I mean added to compost. At least it should help enrich my garden a bit next year.~

Yesterday we threw out two slices of bread. My daughter had poured to much Ranch dressing on them when she was making her sandwich. I told her if she had saved them I could of made croûtons with them

Other things we threw out yesterday:
    One strawberry that was moldy
The bread crumb topping from daughter's serving of casserole.

I tossed a whole cantaloupe, 1 lb strawberries that were in the back of the fridge and forgot

Today I tossed 3 containers of leftover rice, green beans/corned beef. I won't be making that for a while. Seems no one is home when I make it and then they don't take it lunch.

I also tossed a loaf of bread. Sometimes we use a lot of bread, sometimes we don't use any.

I'm usually not that wasteful, but it's been very busy around here and things seem to get lost.

Yesterday I threw away a few freezer burnt items while cleaning out the freezer. BUT I salvaged some frozen peaches that were very frosty. I rinsed off all the ice and I thawed them in the fridge and DS gobbled them up for dessert.

I was able to use up some bell peppers that were starting to get sad. So I saved them from being thrown away!!

I'm going to have to throw away some celery, because it does not stay crispy in my fridge for more than 2 days.

But the carrots I'm going to chop them all up and cook them so they won't go bad! Then my veggie/fruit drawer will be all empty and I can start over again!

Chop it up and put it in the freezer. You can use it for stock or in soups.
