Homemade Spaghetti Sauce????
Does anyone have a recipe for this... I have the homemade pasta with homegrown basil to add to the sauce but no homemade sauce... with using canned/jarred stuff it kinda throws the whole point of "from scratch" out the window.
TIA!

Spaghetti Sauce Recipe
1 lb ground beef, browned and drained
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can tomatoes, diced
1 can tomato paste
1 can tomato sauce
1 green pepper, diced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper (or to taste)
1 tablespoon oregano (or to taste)
1 tablespoon basil (or to taste)
2 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
Brown and drain the ground beef, add all ingredients and stir well.
Bring to a light boil then simmer covered for at least 30 minutes.
The longer it simmers the more flavorful it will get.

The "from scratch" recipe I"ve been following for years is pretty much identical to the one pollypurebred posted. The sugar is the key, if you don't add a little sugar it will taste a little off. And the instructions are correct the longer you can let it slowly simmer the better it will taste.
Also just to add, I've made this sauce with ground beef, ground italian pork (which you can sometimes get cheaper than ground beef at the store), sliced italian sausage links, sliced pepperoni, and I've just left it plain without meat. It's a great recipe you can do so much with.

I don't put in sugar, but that sounds pretty much like what I do. I add chunky tomatoes, and some mushrooms, too.
