Master shopping list for cooking from scratch
I'm working on making a master shopping list so that I can easily tick off what's needed with a quick pantry/refrigerator check before I go to the store. This will also make it easier to scan sale adds to see if we really use the items that are on sale for the week.
I have a master menu already and I worked hard on it to find a variety of recipes that could be made from staples and standard ingredients so that all the items in my pantry and refrigerator could add up to a variety of meals instead of one or two specific dishes. My new goal is to have all the ingredients needed for menu items match up to my master shopping list so no matter what we're in the mood for we have what we need to make it.
I've purposely left off dinner meats as we buy those directly from local farms. I've also left off cottage cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, and bbq sauce as I only buy those at the best sale price.
After I typed and saved this list I realized I had left off bell peppers, cocoa powder, shortening, and vanilla. For the rest of you who cook from scratch- do I have any glaringly obvious omissions that all good cooks need?

after seeing someone else's list I've also added peanut butter, jelly, and saltines- I went through my menu and have everything I need for all of our meals, it was the ingredients for side dishes and snacks that I kept forgetting.
Thanks everyone!
