Default How do you make/eat your oatmeal?

Or as they say in Scotland - your porridge?

Dh and I have re-discovered oatmeal and are loving it.
We are having it for breakfast a couple of times a week.
Our kids won't touch the stuff.

We make it ourselves - Dh makes his oatmeal and I make mine.
This is because we were raised in two different countries and we both have our own way of making/eating it.

DH makes his with milk and eats it with sugar.
His turns into a thick kind of pudding.

I make it with water and a little bit of salt and eat it with cold milk.
When I pour it into a bowl, it sets into a very thick mass. I then pour some cold milk onto it very carefully and eat it.
    MMMM!!!!

    How do make yours?

If I have time I will toss in an egg and a little liquid, mix it and cook it like a pancake.

If I must eat it in a bowl, I eat it like your DH. I add raisins too and sometimes cinnamon.

The kids love theirs soupy instead of thick. You could drink theirs.

When you make your 'pancake' do you add milk or water and how do you eat it? With syrup?
I will definitely be trying this.

We make it with half milk, half water. The kids have whatever they want in theirs like dried fruit, golden syrup, mashed banana.

I cant stand the texture so I make granola for me.

Generally I eat instant and microwave it.... I like it on the thicker side with just a bit of milk on top.......I am a sucker fir anything with apple and cinnomon.

My MIL talks about how her grandmother used to cook theirs slowly overnight on a wood cookstove and how wonderful it was.

We use the regular oatmeal not the instant add water and microwave for approx three mins. stirring every one min. IT is done when it starts to rise out of the bowl. We then stir in what we want in it. Normally a spoonful of peanut butter.

Hubby eat his right away as he likes it more soupy. The kids let theirs cool a bit as the don't like it too hot. I tend to eat mine thick as that is when I finally get around to eating it ( mommy morning duties tend to pop up and I forget I made me some oatmeal). I actually prefer cooked cream of wheat. My favorite is the chocolate flavored one.

I usually add water (we don't keep milk in the house with the exception of powdered). How I eat it depends upon my mood - sometimes syrup, sometimes powdered sugar, sometimes apples or bananas cooked in butter and brown sugar...

Just had some for breakfast while checking out the Village. I make old fashioned oats using 1/2 cup oats to a little more than a cup of water on the stove top. You definitely need a pinch of salt too, makes such a difference, when I forget I notice. I then add splenda &

I only make it, I won't eat it Only the kids will eat it.

1/2 c. oats poured into a pot with a cup of boiling water, cook three minutes, dump in a bowl. Sprinkle of brown sugar and some milk to cool it off. If it's for my teenager, sometimes I mix the porridge half & half with applesauce (then the sugar and milk), but the little kids like it plain.

Dutchie, now I'm curious about which country makes porridge which way.

I make enough to last me for 5 days, then refrigerate. In the morning I put some in a bowl and nuke it for bout a minute and it's just like fresh made. Is a real time saver for me in the mornings. I add a little butter and cinnamon. Yum
