    Default Need a dessert recipe...

    ...for something using Carnation Evaporated Milk (the fattening kind). I have two cans in my pantry that expired last June and July and I don't want them to go to waste. I've heard that canned goods can last up to 10 years after the expiry, so I'm not worried that it's "bad" milk or anything.

    We're having company on Friday at supper and I want to bake something yummy for dessert using at least one can of this milk. Please share a recipe either on this thread or the recipes section (then let me know on this thread what you posted). Thanks so much in advance.

    I did google "Carnation Evaporated Milk recipes", but there are soooo many recipes out there I was hoping for a tried and true recipe. This one looks really good. http://www.verybestbaking.com/recipe...aspx?ID=141446 What would you put with it?...ice cream, something else or nothing?

    Ok, girl don't laugh but this is my favorite way to use it;

    Remove the top lid, place the entire can in a pan of simmering water, and stir...when it carmalizes, pour it over vanilla ice cream.

    This process takes a long time, but I love it.

    This is with sweetened condensed milk, though, right? And not evaporated milk?

    How about a caramel sauce? Or whipped cream/Cool Whip? Or maybe caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream? It sounds delicious

    It says, "Carnation Evaporated Milk" on the front of the can.

    :yes: that's why I asked about the suggestion Penascodragonfly made--I've heard of that being done with sweetened condensed milk but not evaporated. Though it is very possible that it can be done with both.

    I had a can here, and used it in a pumpkin pie a few months ago. Just used the recipe off the side of the can.

    Please open and do the smell test before using, you don't want to serve something bad to your guests and I have heard that EM does go bad.
