Crockpot canned caramel?
I've read somewhere you can make homemade caramel sauce in the crock pot..
Something about putting an unopened can in a water bath on low for 4 hours?
I'm not sure how deep the water bath should be??
Has anyone else heard of this?

I found this. It's for dulce de leche. Interesting. I may have to try it.

Thank you so much!!
Now, I wonder if I could "cook it" on it's side or does it need to be standing up?

Interesting, but I defintely won't be trying this because I would just stand and eat it out of the can with a spoon!!

I haven't heard of making it in a crock pot but I'm not sure why you'd want to. Homemade caramel is so fast and easy to make from scratch that it really only takes a few ingredients and about 10 minutes on the stove from start to finish.
Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium high heat. Once the butter is melted, add white sugar a little at a time until no more will dissolve, stirring constantly. Once all the sugar is dissolved, keep stirring until the butter and sugar mixture reaches a nice deep brown caramel color. Stirring constantly, add in heavy cream until thoroughly combined. Remove from heat and serve or chill for later. If you're a person that needs measurements to get started, use a stick of butter, 1.5 - 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of heavy cream. I just make it from sight but those are the rough measurements.
The only other tip I have for you is to rinse and wash the pot right away because otherwise it takes forever.

i think some people aren't born with a "floured" thumb and making caramel by scratch is intimidating. OR they my not have the time to watch over a pot for 10-15 mins. It's a nice alternative for people who don't like cooking.
