Well, time to pull out the stops. When we were first married we ate potpies and cheap crap. My DH whined-"Can't we ever have steak?" I simply said -NO. When we make money like the Rockefellars,we eat like the Rockefellers". If your DH wants meat,he works more overtime or takes a second job. The math only work one way. If it's just a matter of a few meals I just say (lovingly) Oh, grow up it's only this week.
We are reallly tight right now too. I paid car ins/3,mortgage short fall (escrow),summer tuition and books, plus all the bills for a 2 week period. We are eating from the pantry. WE had broccoli w/ cheese and canned corn and bread. DS (DH repeat) had a fit.
So i dug in the fridge and he ate freezer burned chicken soaked in marinade. Too bad. A meatless day is better for you.
You know what they say-If you aren't part of the solution....

In most cases one pound of GB should be enough for your dish. If you think it just won't be the same with just one pound then make something else. Like Hamburger helper stew. =D

"DH always whines" - as stated by frugalwarrior2, he has to grow up, especially if it's only a few meals.

If I have rolled oats I will toss them into the blender to break the up some..Other wise I just brown hamburger put oats and bouillon into pan with rest of the stuff that I am fixing and bake as usual..If i am doing hamburger patties I will mix it into the the hamburger like a meatloaf.
