Corn Tortilla Press
Maseca corn masa is inexpensive to buy and I would love to make them HM. Something else I could use to press them without one?
TIA

Palooka, how about searching for a U Tube video on tortilla making? They may have some tips to help you out. The only other thing that I can think of is to make them like the women many years ago made them and that was to pat them to the perfect thickness and shape by hand. Sounds very time consuming though.

Slit the sides of a zip baggie and roll out between the layers.

~I haven't had any success with rolling or pressing corn tortillas. They always fall apart. I feel like I've tried every trick there is.
Now flour tortillas are much easier rolled. The press I bought is just useless for flour unless you happen to like really thick tortillas.
But they take so long to make that I'd rather pay the $1 convenience charge and not stand in the kitchen rolling for 30 minutes.~~Constance

~Cut off the zip part of the bag and down the seamed sides. Now you have a big rectangle. Spray with pam and put a ball of dough on one side of the rectangle. Fold the bag's other side to cover the dough. Roll the dough ball between the sheets of plastic. Carefully peel off.
I always had trouble with the carefully peel off part. Mine fell apart the majority of the time.~~Constance

Parchment paper works good in my corn tortilla press. Much better than waxed paper.
Helps to add just a touch of cooking oil to your dough too...

I used to use wax paper between two saucers, place the ball of masa dough in between the wax paper, and press one saucer on top of the other, then peel off the wax paper.
I don't eat corn tortillas much anymore as they raise my blood sugar if I eat them too often.
