Default Frugal marinades for fish needed.

I found some marinades for fish on a web-site, but they were expensive and gourmet. The stores in our area sell one brand of marinades only and we do not like them. Anyone have a good marinade recipe for fish. I will likely be cooking salmon that I bought on sale awhile back and has been frozen. Dh generally likes me to marinate things overnight. Thanks the salmon is thawing now. It will probably be cooked on the BBQ.

Some of my favorite marinade combinations...

Honey, orange juice, soy sauce, oil.

Soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, brown sugar, oil.

    Lemon juice, minced garlic, oil.

I usually do three parts oil to one part acid and then add other ingredients to taste. In the summer, fresh herbs from the garden are a must.

Have fun and experiment. It's hard to mess up a marinade.

When we used to buy bottled salad dressings, if we got one we didn't like for salad we used them for meats and fish. They always tasted good regardless of the salad dressing flavors.

A fast, simple, fairly inexpensive (if bought on sale) marinade for just about anything is zesty Italian dressing. That's really good with salmon.

There are also tons and tons of marinade recipes online that you can mix up yourself. Just Google for marinade recipes or fish marinade recipes and I'm sure you'll find something that sounds good.

I love zest italian as a marinade, really good on asparagus too! I usually make most of my own marinades by eye/taste/smell. For salmon, I would definitely include some brown sugar (already mentioned) or preferably some maple syrup.

Another vote for the Italian dressing - it's a mainstay marinade for fish and chicken here!! Have fun with it and then let us know what you decide to do!!

crshd fresh garlic, frsh lemon juice and a drop of soy. very good! you normally do not want to marinate salmon overnight (or any fish for that matter)

frsh lemon juice, tomato paste, crshd garlic and a bit of OO is a tasty marinade.

dijon grainy mustard, frsh lemon juice and crshd fresh garlic is good on fish, chix, turkey kabobs also.

I don't think I would marinate the fish, either. At least, not in the sense of soaking the meat overnight.

We don't eat a lot of fish, so we've stayed pretty simple with flavoring. Citrus juice, pepper, butter, that's about it. I've had some good smoked salmon, so maybe some liquid smoke. Cajun seasoning might be good.

I marinate salmon in 1/4 cup of maple syrup mixed with 1/4 cup soy sauce, for about 30 minutes to an hour. Then sprinkle thickly with black pepper and bake at 450 degrees for about 10 minutes. Really good!

I don't marinade fish either and I use olive oil & dill weed for salmon and serve with a dill mayo type dressing.

I don't marinate mine either. We are having fish tonight. I will put lemon juice, italian seasoning and pepper. I am going to wrap in alum foil and put on the grill for about ten minutes. YUMMY!

    Have fun trying new recipes!

The salmon was yummy! I mixed about 2/3 of a bottle of zesty Italian dressing with 2 TBS. of brown sugar. Thanks to everyone for the recipes. I have more salmon in the freezer that I got on a good sale, so I will use more marindade recipes.

Salmon is also good with a little salt and pepper and a couple of pats of butter. Then cooked under the broiler. The butter browns and adds a great taste.
